Home Foreclosures On The Rise
Filed Oct 30, 2006 at 2:14 PM ·
Weld County, Colorado, was one of the hottest housing markets in the country...until two years ago.
"At the very best, we're flat," real estate agent Matthew Revitte tells CBS News correspondent Sharon Alfonsi. "And we could be perhaps contracting."
Revitte sold many homes before oversupply and rising interest rates torpedoed the market.

Is Goldilocks For Real Or Just Another Fairy Tale?
Filed Oct 24, 2006 at 6:10 PM ·
Goldilocks was the nickname given to the soft-landing in 1995 that kicked off one of the biggest 5-year bull runs in the equity market in history. That soft landing consisted of a slowdown in growth along with a corresponding falling rate of inflation that allowed the Fed to ease, cushion the economy’s landing and thereby avoid a recession.

No Stabilization in the Housing Market
Filed Oct 18, 2006 at 3:02 PM ·
I am listening to some pundits on TV. They are so positive about the Homebuilders Sentiment Index that I immediately click over to NAHB.org.
Their braggadicio about the "Stabilization in the home builders Index" was so over the top, I expected to see an enormous change. Instead, this is what greets me:

Stabilization? You mean after 8 consecutive months of free fall, we see a tiny blip up? I fail to see what these spinmeisters are so breathless about . . . [Visit site for complete article] Chart: SeekingAlpha.Com

Home Equity Theft
Filed Oct 11, 2006 at 1:35 AM ·
The theme song for the quirky television show Monk intones that "It's a jungle out there," a caution the New York State legislature has taken to heart in passing The Home Equity Theft Prevention Act (the "Act"). The problem needing remediation observed by the state was acts of scam artists fleecing unwary homeowners out of the equity in their residences when their mortgages go into default or foreclosure.

REFINANCING WITH BATTERED CREDIT
Filed Oct 08, 2006 at 2:54 PM ·
Dear John: I am a homeowner in desperate need to refinance. But I have very poor credit because I've been laid off three times in six months. I could go into details but it would take a while. I was wondering if you knew of any private lending or mortgage companies that might help? J.J.

Slowing Housing Market to Put Damper on US Economic Growth
Filed Oct 05, 2006 at 3:32 PM ·
The current slowdown in the housing market could put a major dent in the U.S. economy during the second half of the year, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke said yesterday. Answering questions after a speech, Bernanke said the housing market is undergoing a “substantial correction” that could cut 100 basis points from the nation's economic growth in the second half. The decline could last into next year, he added.

Lumber Prices Drop Sharply Amid Cooling Housing Market
Filed Oct 04, 2006 at 2:10 AM ·
Lumber prices have fallen to their lowest weekly level in nearly five years as the slowdown in the U.S. housing market dries up demand for building products.
As of Friday, weekly composite prices per thousand board feet of framing lumber had fallen to $274 from $401 a year earlier, according to Random Lengths, an industry newsletter. On an average monthly basis, prices are at their lowest levels since mid-2003.

Living the Housing Bubble
Filed Sep 29, 2006 at 12:19 PM ·
Writing about the housing bubble is one thing--we've been doing it for the last few years--and many times, even still, it's met with "incredulous eyes" when I mention it in some circles. Living it, however, is an entirely different experience and sets in motion a series of actions and reactions that cannot be viewed in a vacuum.
We're interwoven. Housing. Debt. The Consumer. The Market. The Dollar. Societal Acrimony. Risk Aversion. One big bag.
It's critical that we employ the proper context when discussing "housing."
